Advent Hope 2: Family Dinner & Prayer, Wk 12
“In the name of the Father, and of the Son…”
Read:
John the Baptist appeared, preaching in the desert of Judea and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!” It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said: A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.
Matthew 3:1-3
When Isaiah speaks of preparing “the way of the Lord,” he uses the image of building a road. Before we can build a road, we have to clear the land, level it out, fill in the holes, and make it smooth. In the same way, as we prepare for the coming of the Lord in our hearts, we have to clear out all the stuff that’s in the way.
Discuss:
What are some worldly concerns that we need to clear out in order to prepare for the Lord? Are there any sins we need to repent of to get ready for his arrival? How can we simplify our lives to prepare the way of the Lord?
“Our Father, who art in heaven…”
