Something to Chew On: “Called to Follow”
Weekly Family Dinner & Prayer
“In the name of the Father, and of the Son…”
Read:
As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Matthew 4:18-20
The first disciples of Jesus left everything behind to follow him. Simon and Andrew were workers. They were business men. They knew the business of fishing. What could convince them to abandon their boats and nets to follow after a rabbi? What did they see in Jesus? Did they know this would change the direction of their lives forever?
Discuss: If Jesus himself came to you today and said, “Drop what you’re doing and come do this instead,” would you go? What would you be giving up? What would you hope to gain? Do you think it might be worth it to lose even the whole world to gain eternity with God?
“Our Father, who art in heaven…”
